26 Jun 2006, 04:29:19 PM - My parents used to live in Sewerby before moving away for family reasons and I have a great sentimental attachment to the Sewerby and Flamborough areas, visiting as often as I can. Please please don't spoil this beautiful area just for the sake of a few shillings, its never never worth it. |
24 Jun 2006, 06:41:44 AM - Just returned to Flamborough once again. I'm not a tree hugger but the Headland and Danes' Dyke just have too much to offer: scenery, wildlife, history. Don't spoil it with development. There are plenty of places to stay in Bridlington, and with cars, everything is nearby. Flamborough is unique. It's too bad the old farm has become so derelect. I'd love to see the FCEAG develop more trails as they have done at South Landing. I love the cliff top signpost carvings. |
21 Jun 2006, 10:10:20 PM - Don't ruin a wonderful peacfull valley. My sister and I have know Danes Dyke since we were born as our Granny lived at the top of Croft Hill in a house called Danes Cote. Danes Dyke was spoilt when Dyke house was pulled down so damage it further. |
31 May 2006, 03:13:57 PM - I am a regular visitor as my parents live in Flamborough and in my opinion too many green and peaceful sites are being lost to developers. If certain residents (last poll) think development encourages tourism they are wrong. Flamborough cannot compete with the highly developed tourist sites and its popularity is based on its scenery, uniqueness, peace and quiet. This development is the thin edge of the wedge, please do not destroy what is a haven to people and wildlife. |
26 May 2006, 04:17:55 AM - I have been coming to Flamborough since i was 2 im now 34 years old, i always make time to go to danes dyke its so peaceful, i cannot think of a better place to be in the hole of the uk. Im there atleast three times a month, love to pop in to have a chat and a meal with pat in copperfields,go to the light house and relax at the dyke.Come on east riding council dont cut your noises if to spite your faces, why spoil something so nice we all love it there, and as u work for us all listen. We do not want this to go ahead, Why spoil perfection. Estarfan, Blackpool. |
24 May 2006, 03:55:00 PM - I am a visitor to the area - one that has come here up to 3 times a year for the last 49 years. As usual council and developer greed seems to outweigh, overide and ignore public opinion and concernes for the nature reserve and the heritage coastine. The beauty, peace and tranquility of this small area would be completely ruined by any development. The only reason the council are considereing this is money. There are far more suitable areas for development nearby if more holiday cottages need to be built (which I doubt)and if something has to be done with Home Farm to appease their greed, do the decent thing and put it on the open market as ONE dwelling for restoration/renovation - it will go for a fortune as it stands because if its position! |
17 May 2006, 09:21:05 PM - too many beauty spots are been developed by greedy councils who are more interested in money making rather than keeping places of nature and beauty like danes dyke, we holiday in bridlington every year and always enjoy the walk down the peaceful danes dyke so please keep campaigning to stop this horrendous development from taking place. |
02 May 2006, 09:05:30 PM - Do we really need more holiday accomodation? I think not. |
25 Apr 2006, 02:56:25 AM - No I don't think they should build cottages. But they do need do something with the old farm. |
19 Apr 2006, 10:40:54 PM - please dont do this it will spoil this beautiful nature reserve. |
18 Apr 2006, 07:08:51 PM - I have been coming to Flamborough ever since i was 6 months old, im now 19 and i visit regulary with friends and they enjoy it as much i as do, i think buliding holiday cottages will just spoil danes dyke and who knows what kind of people you will get visiting! |
06 Apr 2006, 07:41:39 PM - This part of the heritage coastline is a national monument, can you imagine planning authorities in areas such as, stonehenge, dorset coastline, cornwall etc.. even considering a load of crapy holiday cottages to be built in their centre.
Build them some miles away fine so people can travel in to enjoy the beauty but certainly not amongst it so eventually no one wants to come. Don't spoil the gem we have, treasure it for now and for future generations. |
05 Apr 2006, 12:54:34 AM - Why make the area a local nature reserve and then build holiday cottages in it - madness? Perhaps people at East Riding of Yorkshire Council should try 'communicating' with each other - they certainly didn't bother trying it with the residents of Flamborough! |
02 Apr 2006, 10:09:18 PM - this use to be our dream house do not ruin it we love it so much jacke and kevin. |
23 Mar 2006, 09:20:35 PM - Nice place, I used to see a girl from the head, many moons ago called sam.... Anyways nice place dopnt spoil it.. Craig, Philadelphia, USA |
07 Mar 2006, 12:31:00 PM - please dont spoil this beautiful nature reserve by allowing these cottages to be built on it we holiday in bridlington every summer and always visit danes dkye where enjoy the peace and tranquilatiy. |
05 Mar 2006, 11:35:42 PM - we have enjoyed the walk down to danes dyke on several occasions while we have been holidaying in bridlington we love the peace and tranquillity we get during these walks so please do not spoil this by building on it. |

Please accept my objection to the proposed development of holiday cottages, swimming pool, tennis courts etc at Danes Dyke as I consider it to be totally unsuitable for this site on several grounds. - DF of Bridlington. |
Thu 21 Apr 2005, 07:52:03PM - holiday cottages yes tennis courts swimming pool no. |
Thu 21 Apr 2005, 08:01:36PM - danes dyke should be kept for the use of the people of flamborough. |
Fri 22 Apr 2005, 06:41:00PM - Totally against this - Danes Dyke is a Local Nature Reserve, what impact will this development have? Obviously counts for nothing. |
Wed 04 May 2005, 09:28:48AM - The old Home Farm buildings at Danes Dyke, (I'm assuming this is the derelect building(s) between the golf club and the woods of the dyke, may in fact be the Anerley Farm described by R. D. Blackmore in "Mary Anerley". This book, written in the 1800's, is the story of Robin Lyth's escapades as a Flamborough free-trader and his love for Mary Anerley. I have done a revised and edited edition of this book, called "The Story of Robin Lyth". It will be in print in early July 2005. Any one interested in it can contact me at bjcj@adelphia.net. |
Sun 08 May 2005, 12:38:22PM - East Yorkshire needs sustainably developed tourism - more upmarket than caravan sites and arcades - that will attract visitors for more of the season (e.g. mountain bikers, walkers, birwatchers) and that will stay for more than 1 day. |
Wed 11 May 2005, 08:24:41AM - I Have been visiting Bridlington and Flamborough for many years (actually since 1979) - It is without doubt one of the most beautiful coastal areas in Britain, i can see why the locals would be against the development but on the other hand it is not like another south beach caravan leisure park, it will be very nicely done and without destroying the local wildlife, and it will bring in some extra revenue for the local area which i hope would be put back into the upkeep of the local community and the wildlife - When ever we come to the area we always stay at the North Bay Caravan Site (the old Park Estate on Lime Kiln Lane) - all we have to do is walk across Lime Kiln Lane and we are on the main walk up past Sewerby, onto Danes Dyke and then to Flamborough, i can honestly say that i doubt the local council would pass this if it was going to destroy local wildlife and plant life and tree's etc. PA - Nottingham. |
Sun 15 May 2005, 03:40:24PM - Im always up for new things in our area so im a big YES...!!! Flamborough folk are the strangest people I have ever know its a sort of alien race thats very annoying. It dosent suprise me that the people of Flamborough object to this as they cannot stand and change to their sh***y little lifestyles. Ever though if tourism didnt exist in our area we would be nothing! X Flamborough Resident. |
